When you take up a leadership role, everyone looks at: your vision; your values; your priorities; and through these attributes, they look up to you. Setting a good cultural environment is an important aspect for an organisation’s success. It is also critical to spread the importance of this culture amongst employees.

Focusing on open communication promotes transparency and also enables employees to develop effective listening skills. With a strong focus on developing an immaculate organisational culture, Anish Patel has successfully managed to bring his core management team together and they have collectively set up the company’s priorities, thereby imbinding a viable teamwork environment.

Anish has also created a good value system by which an employee’s personal goals are smoothly aligned with the company’s goals. Anish believes that the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), which is considered to be the world’s most influential community of entrepreneurs, plays an important role in improving his operational efficiency and competencies. “EO has given me more than I could have asked for. It’s truly a platform where likeminded people get together to share and grow,” says Patel.

The learning from successful peers during the EO
Forums, where six to eight EO members get together in a non-judgemental environment, the regional and the global events, offer networking and experience sharing opportunities. “These events are truly magnificent, and they work to satisfy the entrepreneur’s thirst for learning. The global leadership conference, for example, trains members to become better leaders. Every year the event is organised for boards of all chapters, and it is attended by more than 3,000
delegates; just being among them gives me tremendous confidence!” he adds.

The annual strategy summits have been built through 30 years of evolving methodology and can be effectively applied to a business. For example, Patel has used the powerful start/stop exercise with his core leadership team and evolved his business to steer it on a faster and surer path of growth. “This kind of learning and strategy workshops in EO have really helped me in creating a strong organisational culture,” he says. “I don’t know of any other place in the world that gives you the tools, knowledge and networks you need to grow your business and yourself.”

Patel’s comprehensive background and experience has benefitted his company tremendously as he started working at the age of 19. From being a waiter, a salad chef, to going door-to-door selling credit card machines, he has done it all. He joined his family business at the age of 23 as a trainee factory manager in Daman. In the last 15 years, he has worked in several markets in the state of Gujarat learning all about the industrial and medical gases business. <

Anish Patel is the Managing Director of Aims Industries Limited, a leading manufacturer and distributor of industrial and medical gases in Gujarat. Patel is a member leader of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization’s (EO) Gujarat Chapter.
