Former PM Vajpayee Critical, On Life Support System

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been put on a life support system at AIIMS in the capital.

The former PM has been admitted at AIIMS for the last nine weeks.

“His condition has worsened over the last 24 hours. His condition is critical and he is on life support system,” said Aarti Vij, Chairperson, Media & Protocol Division at the hospital.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to AIIMS to meet the ailing BJP Patriarch. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also went there.

While Vajpayee has been ailing for a few years, the latest condition is due to a respiratory ailment, it’s learnt. It’s widely believed that Vajpayee is the biggest leader BJP has produced – someone who was respected by colleagues and Opposition alike. Vajpayee was PM for six years, and famously led a coalition of 24 political parties.
