Faster, Cheaper Internet For All Androids

Opera Software has signed up with seven Indian mobile original equipment manufacureres' (OEM)s to pre-install the Opera Mini mobile web browser on all the manufacturers' upcoming handsets, phablets and tablets based on the Android mobile OS.

Opera Mini will be the exclusive third-party browser to be pre-installed on all Android devices by Celkon, Karbonn, Lava and Intex. Opera Mini will also be pre-installed on select Android devices by Fly and Zen, as well as on HCL ME tablets.

"Of the 324 million users of Opera mobile browsers, worldwide, and their target is to achieve 500 million users in the coming year, with India being the largest market (in terms of volume and growth)," added Sunil Kamath, VP, South Aisha region at Opera Software.

Opera Mini compresses webpages by up to 90 per cent before sending them to the device, as a result webpages open faster and users save on data costs. Data compressed for an Android user is 127 per cent higher than the data compressed for an average user. Higher usage and compression rates clearly indicate that Opera Mini users on Android browse more and save more money than an average Opera Mini user.

It uses a server to pre-process and compress websites to as little as 10 per cent of their original size before sending them to the mobile device. Therefore, Opera Mini users get a remarkably faster and more cost effective browsing experience than other mobile browser users.

WebNMS Launches Cell Tower Manager

Ooredoo, Qatar Launches First Live IPX+ Enabled Network
Ooredoo, Qatar, formerly known as Qtel, has launched the first IPX+ enabled network in the Middle East using Tata Communications’ IPX+ platform. The implementation enables Ooredoo to capitalise on the latest technology innovations in mobile broadband service delivery and management.

Ooredoo, Qatar has initially launched voice over IPX+ as the first application, gaining access to Tata Communications’ broad community of IPX+ connected mobile destinations, and plans to consolidate its entire network to an IP-based backbone. Thanks to the scalability of Tata Communications’ IPX+ platform, Ooredoo is able to rapidly support a full suite of services such as signalling, data roaming (GRX and IPX) and LTE Roaming.

Zoho Launches Card Scanner App for iPhone
Zoho has announced the launch of Card Scanner, an online business card scanning application for Zoho CRM. Now, users can take a photo of a business card and Card Scanner intelligently converts the image to text that is automatically saved either as a new contact or lead in Zoho CRM or as a new contact in Card Scanner. Card Scanner currently supports the iPhone and will support iPad and Android devices going forward.

With the launch of Card Scanner app, Zoho users can now eliminate the process of manually entering data into their CRM module. The Card Scanner extracts names, company information, phone numbers, email addresses, Twitter handles and other card information — regardless of business card size, font and format.

Infosys Collaborates With SAP On Mobile Apps To Enhance Retail Sales
Infosys, a global consulting and technology leader, has announced it is collaborating with SAP on development of mobile applications for the retail industry. These efforts are focused on giving consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies anytime, anywhere access to sales representatives and merchandisers, enabling them to capture information from the field to make them more competitive and agile.

Siddharth Mehta Appointed CEO at DPSC

Land Rover India Celebrates Its 65th Anniversary
To celebrate its 65th Anniversary, Land Rover India has launched the Land Rover Experience programme to give existing and prospective customers an opportunity to experience the all-terrain capability of its products. The programme was started with an event near Mumbai where over 100 guests experienced a trail that involved driving Land Rover vehicles over terrain such as steep inclines, rocks, mud, ruts and through water.
