On a day when Bharatiya Janata Party created history, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was struggling with his health and discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

On 23 May, BW Businessworld reported that Finance Minister was keeping unwell since long and has not been attending office for about three weeks now and was admitted to AIIMS for undergoing tests and treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Ending all speculations, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he does not want to be a minister in the new BJP government due to health reasons.

"I am writing to you to formally request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time for myself, my treatment and my health, and therefore, not be a part of any responsibility, for the present, in the new government," he wrote.

In the four-paragraph letter, Jaitley said he had orally informed Modi about his desire not to be a part of the new BJP government to enable him to concentrate on treatment and health.

He said soon after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a massive majority in the just-concluded Lok Sabha election, he had informed Modi orally about his intentions of taking time out for treatment of an undisclosed illness.

Without disclosing the ailment he is being treated for, Jaitley said he would continue to informally support the government and the party in any form that is required.
