Dell Introduces Automated Workstation Software

Dell has announced Dell Precision Performance Optimiser (DPPO), the industry’s first software that automatically configures Dell Precision workstation settings to maximize performance of engineering, design and digital content creation applications.

DPPO is preloaded with profiles for popular applications such as Autodesk Maya, PTC Creo and Dassault SolidWorks and once activated automatically adjusts system settings to optimize performance. Additional features include proactive system maintenance and tracking and reporting of system utilization – helping Dell Precision customers enhance and speed up their design and render times.

Dell Precision Performance Optimiser is an extension of Dell’s existing workstation tools designed to provide customers maximum performance and dependability so they can remain focused on being creative. For example, as part of the Dell Precision Technology Program, Dell engineers work closely with technology partners to architect, design and test joint solutions providing customers assurance that their hardware is compatible and optimized for their software. Dell also develops and provides recommended configurations for customers’ specific software and workflows through the Dell Precision Workstation Advisor. Dell Precision Performance Optimizer is the next step in Dell serving as the trusted advisor to help customers maximize efficiency and productivity.

Dell Precision Performance Optimizer is free and is pre-installed on Dell Precision T1650, T3600, T5600, T7600, M4700 and M6700 workstations with Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit) and Windows 8 (64 bit) operating systems and available for download here. Application profiles are currently available in English for Autodesk Maya, PTC Creo, Dassault SolidWorks with Adobe® Premiere® Pro and  Adobe After Effects®  and other profiles available soon. French and German languages will be available for download in the coming months with other languages available later this year.

CG To Power Luchterduinen Offshore Wind Farm
Crompton Greaves (CG), along with its consortium partners, has been awarded a Rs 239 crore contract for the construction of an offshore HV substation in the Netherlands from Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects BV.

CG, in consortium with Cofely Fabricom and Iemants, will design, deliver and install the high voltage offshore substation for the Luchterduinen project. The Luchterduinen offshore wind farm is located 23 km from the Dutch coast between Noordwijk and Zandvoort and has an installed production capacity of 129MW. The 43 wind turbines will generate green electricity for nearly 150,000 households.

CG will design, engineer and manufacture the overall electrical system. The delivery will include all electrical engineering work, two step-up power transformers, medium voltage and high voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), auxiliary/earthing transformers, an MV reactor, and the SCADA/control and protection system for the substation. The project is expected to be completed by August 2015. The customer valued in particular CG’s expertise in consulting and advising for the most optimal grid connection design, taking into consideration grid connection requirements from the Dutch transmission grid operator, TenneT.

Nuage Networks Introduces Second-Generation SDN Solution
Nuage Networks, an Alcatel-Lucent venture focused on software defined networking (SDN) solutions, has announced an open software-based solution to address the key datacenter network constraints that limit cloud services adoption.

The Virtualized Services Platform (VSP) will allow healthcare, banking, utilities and other enterprise market segments, as well as webscale companies – large Internet-based companies – and telecom service providers, to scale their cloud offers and provide instant, secure connectivity to multiple customers.

Trials of the Nuage Networks Virtualised Services Platform begin in April in Europe and North America. Trial customers include UK cloud service provider Exponential-e, French telecoms service provider SFR, Canadian telecoms service provider TELUS and leading US healthcare provider, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Worldwide commercial availability is planned for mid-2013.

Michel Combes, new CEO of Alcatel-Lucent said: “It’s exciting to start my first day as CEO of Alcatel-Lucent with an announcement that expands our addressable market. Alcatel-Lucent’s SDN strategy and the Nuage Networks branded portfolio announced today builds on the cloud orchestration we already provide with our CloudBand™ Management System. We are very well positioned to help telecom and cloud service providers build large scale cloud infrastructure and services, opening up new revenue opportunities for our customers and ourselves.”
