Toll collection on all National Highways has been temporarily suspended to facilitate faster movement to emergency services as India fights the coronavirus outbreak.

Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, took to Twitter to announce, "In view of COVID-19, it has been ordered to temporarily suspend the collection of toll at all toll plazas across India. This will not only reduce inconvenience to the supply of emergency services but also save critical time."

The Minister also maintained that the "Maintenance of roads and availability of emergency resources at toll plaza will continue as usual."
