Design Team of VMate, social media app owned by the Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group, visited the Indian Institute of Art and Design Campus. The VMate application lets one record their daily life experiences and post them with in-app CGI filters on the platform. The main motive of their IIAD visit was to understand and discuss design preferences and aesthetics in the Indian context.
Alex, Head, Design team at VMate, said that they were here to “better understand the significance of internationalization and localization of design”. An in-depth discussion with Design Experts from Alibaba furthered the knowledge of Communication Design students of IIAD. To facilitate the workshop, two groups were formed by VMate - Design team and Content Team and students were given a choice to be a part of either of them.
The Alibaba team came prepared to the Campus with a series of questions targetting the present design sense and preference of the Indian audience. The VMate Team was enthusiastic about gaining insights into the students’ inspiration for designs, the habits and aspects of their lives they draw influence from, etc. They also aimed at predicting trends for future customization purposes.
The workshop proved to be of use, both for the students at IIAD as well as the Chinese representatives. It was a good exchange of culture, ideas and technology.
