COVID-19 Update: India’s Cumulative Vaccination Coverage Crosses 61 Cr Mark

Amid the speculations of a possible third wave, India’s cumulative vaccination coverage has crossed the 61 Crore landmark, informed the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, on Friday. 

As per the official statement, "With the administration of 79,48,439 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has surpassed the cumulative figure of 61.22 crore (61,22,08,542) as per provisional reports till 7 AM, on Friday. This has been achieved through 66,60,983 sessions."

"The Union Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country," read the official statement. 

A total of 32,988 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours which has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,18,21,428. Now, at present, the recovery rate in the entire country stands at 97.60 per cent. 

"Sustained and collaborative efforts by the Centre and the States/UTs continue the trend of less than 50,000 Daily New Cases that have been reported for 61 consecutive days now," it stated. 

Meanwhile, As per the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, India registered a total of 44,658 fresh COVID-19 cases and 496 deaths in the last 24 hours. This has pushed the total of the country to 3,26,03,188, while the death toll has gone up to 4,36,861.

The active caseload is 3,44,899 and total active cases constitute 1.06 per cent of the country's total positive cases.

"The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 18,24,931 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 51.49 Cr (51,49,54,309) cumulative tests," informed the Health Ministry in a press release. 

While testing capacity has been enhanced in India, the Weekly Positivity Rate at 2.10 per cent remains less than 3 per cent for the last 63 days. 

Talking about the Daily Positivity rate, it now stands at 2.45 per cent which has remained below 3 per cent for the last 32 days and below 5 per cent for 81 consecutive days now, the ministry said.
