On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the Union Budget?
I will rate it at 7-7.5.
Do you feel this is an election/populist budget or a developmental budget considering the elections next year?
I think it is a development budget as it takes good care of marginal people specially addressing the marginal farmers by aiming to double their income which are all the signs of a progressive budget.
Has the Government addressed the job/employment issue adequately in this Budget?
Yes, I believe so, the employment opportunities provided by the farming and food processing sectors are huge and if the Government is able to maintain jobs in this sector, then the issue of job creation is well taken care of. Apart from these sectors, special provisioning has been done for the infrastructure and construction sectors such as the building of houses in the rural and semi-urban areas in such big numbers is not only going to provide direct employment to people, but also, industries like steel, cement and other suppliers to the infrastructure sector are going to get boost in terms of employment.
Is the farm distress/agri crisis addressed well in this Budget?
The Government has done its due towards the farming community crisis by taking a commendable step such as addressing the MSP issue where the support price for the next kharif crop will be 50 per cent higher than the input cost, which is a very good and progressive step.
Summarize the Union Budget in a few lines.
Although this budget had a populist approach but, it has rightly addressed the issues of marginal farmers and people of India as without their growth, the Government cannot push the growth of our country, thus, that ways it is a futuristic budget.
Three hashtag words/expressions to sum up the budget 2018.
I would say the announcement of the roll out of 5th generation mobile networks by 2020 is a great approach by our Government and also the launch of Obamacare kind of Modicare insurance scheme is a great achievement of this budget. But, the best takeaway from this budget is the MSP announcement.
