You wake up in the morning not feeling fresh, grab your cup of tea or coffee to make your brain wake-up, you rush through your shower, grab that toast or juice, and run to work. Your mind is still asleep. But you need to be awake for that meeting, presentation, that session with your manager. But your brain just won't wake up. Sounds familiar? Here's help.

Our brain is actually needy of four things: oxygen, hydration, omega-3 fatty acids and a power packed supply of nutrient rich minerals and antioxidants that will not just increase your immunity but also improve memory and decrease brain fog. So how do we ensure that we get all four? Here’s how.

Omega-3: This is one of the pillars of why the brain will function or not function well and a reasonably large part of the reason why you get anxiety. Apart from physical health benefits of omega-3 like reduction in cholesterol and high blood pressure, the mental benefits include a better mood, a calmer mind and a well fed brain that functions well. Rich sources of omega-3 are fish oil, flaxseed oil, algae available in the form of chlorella, oily fish like tuna, sardines, salmon, herring, trout, anchovies. Consume a lot of these, almost 20% of your day's calories should come from omega 3 fatty acids, raw.

Nutrients: For all the neurons that you have lost while fretting, stressing and with lack of sleep, the right antioxidants with algae, spirulina, nuts and seeds will start replenishing these and waking up the forgotten memories, hence making you sharp and alive. Make sure you dollop up twice a day on these.

Hydration: This is actually very simple but extremely ignored. Do you know that the brain cells dehydrate the fastest when you drink less water? A lot of people complain of what they think are stress headaches but are actually the brain cells dehydrated of water. Dull headaches are a sign that you are not hydrating your brain well. After you reach office, you need to have a glass of water every 90 minutes to stay sharp. The water will also release toxins from your mind and you will be mentally agile and also physically leaner and fitter. And if you can get up to get your water every 90 minutes, you will also be saving yourself from cervical issues because you are getting up from your chair, you will also reduce belly fat because you are not sitting for long hours.

Oxygen:
We all live in a polluted environment and are in any case deprived of oxygen. On top of that, in an open office system, the air circulation is poor and the air conditioner is not creating a very highly oxygenated environment, leading to low levels of oxygen in a room full of people who need it. So then, what do you do? You cannot stop working, you cannot stop being in the office, correct? But you can still oxygenate your brain. When you wake up in the morning, and when you reach home in the evening before dinner, you need to start doing calming breathing exercises like anulom vilom, brahmri which are known as brain exercises also because they oxygenate your brain and make it come alive. Do these exercises for duration of 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening and not only will your brain regenerate the lost neurons and memories, but you will realise that you have started reducing your inflammation levels inside your body, getting better moods, decreasing the risk of cancer and lifestyle diseases and gaining better sleep and higher energy.

Your brain is the higher subset of what your body needs. Do the above and reconnect your mind and body towards a sharper you.
