After bringing very limited moolah in the weekends, Begum Jaan poor performance continued in the weekdays. A lot was riding on the weekdays performance for the movie to set a decent total on the board.

The film moved on to the weekdays with 1200 screen. Begum Jaan collected Rs. 1.87 crore on Monday which was a huge fall and continued on the same lines on Tuesday and Wednesday collecting Rs. 1.59 crore and 1.40 crore respectively. The film stands at a six-day total of 16.34 crore.

Begum Jaan being a notable release of 2017 failed to attract audience and opened with Rs.11.48 crore through the weekend. The number is lower when compared to other female centric films released in 2017 like Naam Shabana and Phillauri.

Begum Jaan is written and directed by National Award Winning Director, Srijit Mukherji and produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Play Entertainment. The film also stars Ila Arun, Naseeruddin Shah, Rajit Kapoor and Chunkey Pandey in the major roles.

There was a positive buzz around the movie and the trailer was positively received. Begum Jaan fared with good reviews, but the word of mouth was average for the film. The film faced fierce competition from Fast 8 as it was the first choice of moviegoers. IPL is also a big reason for the film's poor business.

Though Begum Jaan is made with a controlled cost, it had the stake of maintaining the box-office's portfolio for the Hindi release as it was clashing with Fast 8. Looking at the collections of both the movie, Fast 8 fared way ahead of Begum Jaan.

Begum Jaan can't be termed as a loss venture for its makers as it recovered major proportion of its cost through music and satellite rights, but a lot more was expected of the movie. The film was an important release for Vidaya Balan considering her last release, Kahani 2, was considered a flop. Begum Jaan failed to beat the opening week collection of Kahani 2 which brought in 14 crore.

Looking at the weekdays collection of the movie, even 20 crore for the movie seems challenging. With such poor performance in Week 1, exhibitors would surely not bet for the movie in Week 2 with a lot of screens and the movie might pack up earlier than expected.
