Befriend Your Summer Flow

Here are some sure shot ways of ensuring a seamless flow for your summer periods:

Summer being summer – a bright happy time with a strong tendency to drain – every woman needs to watch her back and not necessarily just literally. Since it is so heavily about the outdoors, summer can turn almost daunting when one is on their period. How to check your pad while on holiday at the beach? How to handle the tremendous weight of PMS in 45-degree weather? How to have fun when you just feel, well, off?

Here are some sure shot ways of ensuring a seamless flow for your summer periods:

1. Fluids:

Menstruation is the monthly flow of unused lining created by the body in order to prepare for pregnancy. Since this lining is laden with goodness, its loss only naturally takes away from any body’s strength. It is therefore important to consciously hydrate extra at a time when the sun is beating down heavy and the air is full of moisture. Consuming mineral waters with extra magnesium, homemade iced teas or light juices is a must for your time of the month every summer. It’s also a good idea to stock up on additional magnesium from drugstores/organic food stores.

2. Acceptance:

Fact of life is, summer periods make you extra cranky. The sooner you make your peace with this unnecessarily harsh reality, the easier it becomes to deal with. Don’t let it take a toll on your entire summer! Do more and more of what you love and avoid anything that aggravates your delicate mood.

3. Bathroom:

Locating a toilet at a handy distance from where you spread out is important – whether you’re at the beach or in a park. Having access to a dry, sanitary space to mind your business is key for your physical and mental wellbeing while on your period.

4. Pads pads everywhere:

Whether pads are your poison or tampons, its important to keep yourself insured by stashing them everywhere! Your bag, your beach bag, your car, your boyfriend’s bag, your girlfriend’s bag, their cars, everywhere. There never is anything wrong with extra.

5. Exercise:

A little bit, not too much. Too much physical exertion can prove to be counterproductive in the summer heat. Indulging in a sport you like or light yoga however, can do wonders for a cramping PMSing body.

6. Eating:

Eating can turn into a bit of a task with the heat weighing you down – so its wise to acknowledge your cravings with a strict predecided diet of light foods like veggies & salads. They won’t make you feel as satiated as binging on a variation of sweet and savoury munchies but here’s the upside – they definitely won’t make you feel as bad as the same either!
