BSNL will operate the mobile networks of cash deficit MTNL. In a latest development, the PSU is optimising MTNL’s networks in Delhi and Mumbai. This is aimed at improving the coverage and lowering the operational costs of MTNL.

BSNL took over the operations of MTNL in Delhi earlier this year. It also did the same for Mumbai on September 1, 2021.

BSNL will also pay the salaries of MTNL employees and all the legal and operational charges. MTNL has a long list of outstanding charges including License Fees, Spectrum Usage Charges, AMC charges, Electricity bills etc. The PSU aims to pay the revenue expenses out of the revenue it gets from operating and maintaining the MTNL networks.

It is being said that after the arrival of 4G in government PSUs, MTNL will be able to offer competitive prepaid plans to its users. BSNL is already offering economical packs. This comes amidst the fears of the Indian telecom industry becoming a duopoly with Jio and Airtel being the big players with Vi in crisis over long-pending dues.
