Auto Expo New Delhi 2012

The 11th Auto Expo saw a slew of launches (50 in all) across cars and bikes. On display were the fast and the furious, the sleekest and the meanest set of wheels likely to hit Indian roads soon. There were also several drop-dead gorgeous concept cars which will take a while to be in the market. For those of you who are into Isaac Asimov and Blade Runner, there were a host of hybrids and electric vehicles that could be ‘the' cars to own in the next 20 years. Here's our pick of the utility vehicles (both SUVs and MUVs), the green ones and the sports cars at this expo. So which one will you drive?

Utility Vehicles
Automobile companies have figured out that there is a market between the hatchback and the sedan. If one expected a small car again at the Auto Expo 2012, it was not to be. Instead, affordable utility vehicles —both sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and multi utility vehicles (MUVs) — were unveiled a plenty. While some of them were designed specifically for India, there were also top-end SUVs in the stables of Audi and Land Rover.

going Green
Going green is obviously the ‘in' thing and the Auto Expo 2012 was no exception. Despite sceptics being convinced that hybrid and electrical vehicles will not find a market in India due to their exorbitant prices and the lack of infrastructure, automakers went ahead and showcased their greener side. Many of these vehicles are years away from entering India, however, their presence grabbed a million eyeballs.

Sports
If your need for speed is not met with the current stock of cars, the Auto Expo 2012 would have definitely given you a high. On display were some of the fastest machines on offer globally. Even though some of these mean set of wheels are already here, you need a long stretch of an expressway to hit top speed.
