Is the fashion world the most arrogant in the country? Check it out here

You know the fashion world is the most arrogant in the country.


Why do you say that?


I have heard that designers, when they start, are very humble and obliging but after a couple of shows and reviews, it’s impossible to contact them.


I suppose the touch of fame does things to people; though I can’t understand why, since most designers’ assistants create the collections.


What I can’t understand is how they do business if they don’t communicate and answer phone calls and mails.


Well, that’s one of the reasons Indian designers are where they are.


There are designers who have been hyped by the media but are not selling anywhere and yet they have attitude!


Very sad, in the past many buyers and fashion experts from the West have continuously told the Indian fashion fraternity that success comes with communication and disciple.


Well, it seems these buyers were talking to blank walls, since the designers have no communication skills or discipline.


Yes, you are so right some of them can’t even write a few sentences about their collection and instead send poems and prose.


Well, they are the losers because foreign buyers want complete lookbooks and details or they are not interested and there is enough competition around the world, so no one has time for substandard people.


Many of them are not even interested in taking orders, they want to sell their ramp collections and go home.


That is the sad state of the fashion industry and that’s why Indian designers are unknown in the West barring just a few.


But there are some very professional and experienced senior designers who are in the business for many decades, are disciplined and prompt in responding.


That is why they are still in the business.


You know sometimes it’s more irritating when the designers’ assistants and PR agencies throw attitude and don’t give information and behave like celebrities.


Well, then it will reflect on the designer and the business. These assistants and PR agencies are more arrogant and pricey than the designers.


I think the fashion institutes need to teach the designers how to communicate with the industry, besides teaching them the nitty-gritty of fashion.


Well, they have fashion communication courses and hold exhibitions, contests and give awards to design students who feel they are superior once they leave and so become incommunicado.


The most shocking thing is when designers say they created their fashion week collections in just 7 days. Do they know the meaning of a fashion week or do they think it is a mela?


Well, it looks as though the fashion business has become a mela where everyone wants to make a quick buck without any quality, standards or discipline. 


What are they trying to prove that they are fast but this only shows how disorganised they are.


Well, the result can be seen on the ramp, when shoddy finish and construction as well as maybe some copying is visible.
