Amazon India Opens Its 1st Fulfilment Centre In Punjab

Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd (ASSPL) announced the opening of a Fulfilment Centre (FC), spread over 50,000 square feet, in Doraha on the outskirts of Ludhiana. This is Amazon India’s first Fulfilment Centre in the state of Punjab. The FC will allow Amazon.in to offer its Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) service to thousands of small and medium businesses in the state and empower them to gain access to and service customers across the country as well as globally at significantly low operating costs.  It will also enable faster and quicker delivery of products to amazon.in customers in the region.

Over 150 sellers from across the state have already registered at the facility and many of them have started inbounding their products at the facility. Amazon.in celebrated its 2nd anniversary in India early this month and in these two years, Amazon has invested substantially in creating logistics infrastructure in the country to help build a transformative customer experience for both buyers & sellers. Amazon.in now has 12 FCs operational across nine states in India covering a total of over one million square feet  space  with a storage capacity of over 2.6 million cubic feet.

Snapdeal Kick-starts The 1st International Yoga Day Celebrations
Snapdeal, an online marketplace launched a dedicated Yoga-themed store, ahead of the first International Yoga Day celebrations on 21st June. Snapdeal’s users can look forward to browsing through exciting yoga merchandise like – yoga learning e-guides, mats, modern yoga equipment, yoga-wear and more on the marketplace. Customers can also avail exclusive offers and promotions on over 150 special products, for the week starting 17th June.  

Underlining the benefits of Yoga for a healthy lifestyle and Snapdeal’s special initiatives for employees, Saurabh Nigam, Vice President - HR said, “Responding to the Government’s efforts to make the first World Yoga Day a huge success, we are encouraging our customers and internal stakeholders in recognizing the transformational power of lifestyle practices like yoga. Seagate Named To Gartner’s Supply Chain Top 25 Rankings
Seagate Technology, a world leader in storage solutions, announced it has been named to the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for 2015.

“Seagate is wholly focused on continuously improving the effectiveness of our entire supply chain so we can meet the needs of our customers while adapting to changes in global logistics and the macro economy,” said Bob Legendre, senior vice president of supply chain management at Seagate. “Our supply chain has become a valuable tool giving customers added confidence in Seagate’s ability to provide a sustainable supply of drives to their businesses. We are proud to be recognized alongside other industry leaders on this prestigious list and feel this is validation of our efforts to develop a world class supply chain.”

This is the second consecutive year that Seagate has ranked within the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25, advancing from twentieth in 2014 to sixteenth in 2015 as a result of the company’s continued re-engineering of business practices and strengthening of supplier relationships.

The Top 25 is selected from among 300 companies on the Fortune Global 500 and Global 2000 annual rankings. Assessment by a distinguished panel of industry and supply chain analysts, and a peer panel of supply chain professionals, are included in the scoring process that determines the Top 25.

 
Dell’s New Coimbatore Facility Earns LEED Gold Certification
Dell, the world’s fastest-growing large integrated IT Company, has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for its Coimbatore facility, a recognition by the India Green Building Council for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of high-performance green buildings. The Coimbatore facility supports Dell’s Services business and is home to more than 2,200 Dell team members.

The facility features several environment-friendly elements, ranging from the construction material used to the overall design of the building, to meet the LEED requirements. Fly ash, a waste material from power plants, was used in the concrete; and 96% of all waste produced during construction were reclaimed or recycled. The building functions on an energy efficient design with LED lighting, extensive use of windows with high-performance glazing for natural daylighting, solar panels to generate electricity for the cafeteria and lobby, and use of the heat wheel technology for cooling, etc. Additionally, there is provision of an on-site wastewater treatment with 100% of the treated water used for lavatories and landscape irrigation, rainwater harvesting system, and automatic shut-off sensors on lavatory fixtures.

The facility also includes other sustainability elements such as the use of low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) coatings, sealants and other materials throughout the facility, electrical vehicle charging stations in the car park area, and wet scrubbers on back-up electrical generators to reduce emissions, etc.
