Ahead Of The PM’s Visit, Israeli Officials Meet Amitabh Bachchan To Woo Bollywood

Building up for the visit of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu which begins on Sunday, Israeli Consulate in Mumbai met with Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan to establish strong ties between Bollywood and Tel Aviv.

Bachchan has received a gushing appreciation from the Israeli Consulate in Mumbai for his active role, and cooperation in further enhancing the Indo-Israel ties via Bollywood.

Yakov Finkelstein, Counsel General of Israeli Constellate in Mumbai took twitter to thank the megastar.

“Thank you, @SrBachchan for opening your house & your heart for the staff of the Consulate of @israelinMumbai . We are humbled by the honour and the kind words you bestowed on #Israel. Appreciate your active role in the cooperation between #Bollywood & Israel,” he mentioned in the tweet.

“We are humbled by the honour and kind words you bestowed on Israel.”

Previously in an exclusive interview with BW Businessworld Daniel Carmon, Israel’s Ambassador to India  had said

“Unfortunately India and Israel don’t know each other enough. But if you look at the last two years and look at the high-level visits, it has encouraged trends of bringing more people to business, tourism, and studies. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the growing relationship.”

The meet and greet of Israeli Officials with the Bollywood biggies could be a part of a bigger strategy of Israel to somehow cover up the loss of support of Israel in the world of art and music, which received a massive blow from the BDS movement against Israel.

Last year Israel had used the same strategy to ramp up the image by trying to woo Hollywood, but failed miserably.

Israel had offered 26 Oscar Nominees including Hollywood megastars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon a free trip worth 55,000 $ to their country to experience the culture and life there, but it was denied by all the actors.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu who is beginning his India tour on Sunday will go to Mumbai and engage in a specially crafted Bollywood event called Shalom Bollywood.

Netanyahu is said to meet all the Bollywood biggies including top directors and producers in Mumbai and invite them over to shoot in and explore the picturesque land of Tel Aviv.

Prior to the PM’s state visit to India Carmon in an official statement said

“The Prime Minister’s visit to India is the grand finale to the celebrations of 25 years of Growing Partnership between India and Israel. The visit will focus on the progress made between India and Israel since Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Israel last summer, and on shaping the next 25 years of relations between our countries and our peoples.”
