Action Over Videos

Twitter-owned video application Periscope recently teamed up with GoPro to bring live-streaming video to GoPro’s action cameras.

Twitter-owned video application Periscope recently teamed up with GoPro to bring live-streaming video to GoPro’s action cameras. The feature will be currently available only to GoPro’s Hero4 Silver and Hero4 Black; older GoPro cameras won’t be able to beam video to the Twitter-made app. Users will also need an Apple iPhone — no streaming video for Periscope on Android as of yet — and likely a massive data plan. And while the broadcasting functionality will only be available through Periscope on the iPhone (and not Periscope on the iPad), video feeds from GoPros will be able to be seen on Periscope and Twitter on the iPhone, iPad, Android devices and the web.

With the popularity of streaming video apps growing, the collaboration is expected to help both GoPro and Twitter in growing their respective audiences. Interestingly, at the beginning of this year, Twitter had announced that Periscope live streams could be played within the twitter users’ feeds without needing to click through an external link.

Although a very niche brand, GoPro has been experiencing sagging sales for sometime. The collaboration will give it an ability to live-stream footage through Periscope onto Twitter which will be available to 316 million users monthly. This, according to industry analysts, could give the adventure sports enthusiasts a new reason to buy into the new technology.

Available on GiftHub, anyone in the world can now view, modify and use Microsoft’s Computational Network Toolkit (CNTK). The company has open sourced CNTK, a framework that is used to power speech recognition in its Cortana digital assistant and Skype Translate applications. It is based on a branch of artificial intelligence called deep learning, which seeks to help machines do things like recognise photos and videos or understand human speech by replicating the structure and functions of the human brain.

DIG THE DATA
Trust In Social Media

Social Media Link, a provider of brand advocacy activation solutions, in its survey of nearly 19,000 consumers about how they use social media for investment and savings advice found that millennials and digital natives are particularly drawn to online and mobile banking, with the percentage of millennials relying on mobile banking apps expected to grow to 73 per cent by 2019. Nearly 50 per cent of participants said they turn to their Facebook friends for financial advice; 39 per cent are even willing to discuss household finances. Forty one per cent said they trust reviews or recommendations from friends and family more than traditional media.
