In the present age of globalization, national boundaries find relevance only in the chambers of governance and world maps. Mobility, fast communication and abrupt shift in economic amenities have rendered a class of global citizens whose national identities are less relevant than their international presence pertaining to trades and business. Education has been the major gateway to any country. Students are assets to both their nation and the country in which they settle down to study. This is reason of importance and stature bestowed on them. Studying abroad is one of the most sought-after dreams of any ambitious students. A quest for better education and advanced research facilities has been the major reasons for students who pursue their study abroad. Although, the migration is typically from less developed countries to advanced nations, economic development of a nation has not been a prime factor for the Student Diaspora. However, in economically developed countries, education is progressive and offers better opportunities to learn.

Although studying abroad involves more of a student life within course curriculums and yearly schedules of universities, living and daily life is ingrained with it. Procedures for admission are associated with the institutions directly. Hostels, dorms and other residential facilities are provided by authorities or student forums within these institutes. Concisely, for students there are no such hardships while on their stay. However, it is necessary to have comprehensive idea about each aspect of life in a campus as a student as well as a foreign national in a new country.

The preparation to study abroad starts with the search of relevant courses across the globe. This determines the destination country for most of prospective students. However, many students held the country as a prior parameter while deciding to study abroad. Once the course is selected the prescribed procedures for admission needs to be initiated. Students should be cautious and attentive about these processes because, they can be vastly different to their home country. Moreover, differences in timetables and schedules make the process quite confusing. Students must be updated on every latest announcement from the institute they are planning to study. The next is passport and Visa. The formalities have to be completed aptly.

Apart from academics, visa and finance, one should consider many other important aspects to study abroad. Awareness about the country and the location is crucial because one will have to live there for a long time. Carry out extensive research about people and culture of the nation. Learning history is the best way to know about people and their culture. A general awareness about this allows having cordial relationships with the locals and helps to embrace the changes. Moreover, gestures, habits, greetings and such public expressions are largely diversified across countries and cultures. The best policy is being a Roman when in Rome. A concise understanding of the local language is necessary. Although, the skill will eventually get along after a stay, a basic understanding of common terms and conversations makes it easier to get along with the new crowd. Be aware about food practice and be readily prepared to change your diet and eating habits. Adequate knowledge about geography and weather of the country or the location is imperative. Knowledge about political scenario, economy and government is crucial.

Before leaving for a foreign land, it is utmost necessary to be sure about accommodation. This in fact is the topmost priority for students. Institutions offer hostels and dorms, but they might not be ready at the time of admission. This is a common issue in colleges and universities everywhere. Therefore, one should be ready to face such situations even if the institution assures lodging. It is always better to have an alternate plan. Prospective students should get hold of precise information about local transportation, cost and distances that they would need to travel. Locality, availability of market places, clothes, stationary and such basic items should be considered.

Registering with the embassy is important for international students. In time of any unexpected emergency, this helps largely. On the other hand, maintaining a constant connection with the embassy can make one find people from his or her own nation who can be of great help. Learn about the financial system and matters involving money. Currency exchange may become a huge problem even if you have cash. Notifying the bank at the earliest about the plan to study aboard where a student is important, as many credit cards or debit cards do not work in other countries. Being physically fit is important for prospective international students. They should check up their health before leaving and have health insurance. In many universities, health insurance is a qualifying criterion to be admitted.

Being in a foreign country as a student is exciting, however, one must be ready to live among people who are completely new and thousands of miles away from home. Good preparation keeping in minds every possibility and minute aspects make it easier and trouble free. Prospective students must be prudent and act accordingly.
