A  successful Intrapreneur, Karan Bedi has made a strong presence in the entertainment industry of India through his diverse experience in the digital world. He along with his team has transformed a utility video app into India’s second-largest OTT in a record eight months of launch. Bedi is the young CEO of MX Player, a popular video streaming platform. Graduate from Stanford University with Bachelors in Economics, Bedi has also earlier led Eros as a COO which is now India’s largest streaming servicing a diaspora of audiences. Also worked as a strategic adviser to all digital businesses in Eros International, he has always focussed on creating innovative and engaging content experiences in infotainment and education for worldwide clients. 

Leading a team of 300 people across four countries and overseeing all aspects of the business including product, technology, content, sales, marketing and operations, he has been an inspiration for all the budding young entrepreneurs. Having been in the industry for over a decade, he has worked across media, technology and is driving the company around the media industry with a natural curiosity for technology. 

Worked with ContentFlow earlier, Bedi through his diverse experience is driving MX Player in India touching over 75 million people every day and 175 million people every month. The core proposition of MX Player is streaming high quality, premium content for free. With an exciting slate of MX Originals, and the largest repository of over 200,000 hours of premium content from leading content creators and partner platforms such as TVF, Arre, Viacom, SunNXT and SonyLIV amongst others, the company has over 650 leading TV shows, more than five million music videos, over 15,000 movies and over 100 international shows across multiple genres and languages.

Being the first and only entertainment platform that integrates all forms of entertainment on one app –has consistently ranked among the top 10 android apps since 2012. MX Player is backed by Times of India Group and ZenJoy Limited (Beijing). Under the leadership of Karan Bedi, the company has reached exponential heights. It is one of the largest and deepest penetrated platforms of any category, not just entertainment, and influences more people in tier 2 and 3 markets than any other news or entertainment platform. 

Highlighting its distinctive features, Bedi informs that MX Player is the largest local video player in the world with best in class technology and features. Bedi describes, “It was quite difficult to convert our millions of users from just offline viewers into streamers, considering all the challenges and competition in the market. I am proud and happy to say that we have over-delivered on that challenge. Today we have grown to be the 2nd largest streaming service in India.” 

Discussing his learning, Bedi said that users are quite discerning. “There are no shortcuts to convincing them to use your product. If you can deliver true value to them, then you will win them over. We have done a 1000 different experiments and continued to innovate and luckily this has resonated with them and we now have a large user base on streaming,” states the CEO. 

“I believe that in the end, all business I geared to create impact. I have been able to rise to the level of the best. That has enabled me to create an impact in a manner that only being at the top does,” informs Bedi ending on the note of creating a substantial impact through business.
