The confinements of shopping in a mall have been broken for seasonal and festive shopping. This New Year is going to be relatively similar as well. The retail industry sees a massive boom in the shopping trends during the year-end festive season. Most of these can be attributed to Christmas, New Year and End Of Year sales. Customers seem to find the offers during this period the most attractive and maximize on their spending.

Retail e-Commerce in India is projected to grow to $17.52 bn in 2018, and Indians are moving from shopping in stores to using their laptops and mobile devices to make purchases for everything from clothes to toys and even household appliances.

With a massive number of shoppers looking to make purchases this year, we've put together a couple of points on how you can maximize your year end shopping to get the most of the sales and keep those wallets heavy.

Pre-shopping

1: List it out

Before you begin your shopping, it always works to make a list of whom you want to shop for and what you want to get. This often provides clarity, helps you ensure you've got everything covered and provides you a foundation to cross reference great offers. Good lists often carry a list of the top sites that offer you the best deals and freebies, so you simply have to go back to check who is offering you the most before you make the actual purchase.

2: Set a budget

Good shoppers always know how much they need to spend before they get started. Most people often get shopping without keeping a budget in mind, and this often results in a huge hole in one's pockets. Map your budget and provide yourself a +/- 20% of the budget to meet your shopping needs.

3: Do your research

Best sales makes their announcements weeks before the actual sale. Go online, check the papers, see where you can find the best upcoming deals. Research can help you save time and money, thus helping build great shopping carts.

Safe Shopping

1: Shop on websites that you trust

Know which websites are trusted and read reviews about them before you get started. Don't use a search engine to search for deals, find the best sites and look for deals within them. More than theft and loss of money, most online shoppers complain about not receiving the right product or not having an exchange policy. Mitigate these using trusted sites.

2: Use online security

Never shop on a site or share credit card details with a vendor that does not have an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption installed on pages that ask for your personal information (the entire website does not have to have SSL encryption). You can know that they are safe if the URL has an https:// instead of http://. A site with good encryption will also have a lock that appears near the URL when you reach your payment gateway.

3: Private Wi-Fi for shopping

Avoid using public places to make purchases. It is best advised to use your private and secure Wi-Fi to make transactions and purchases to prevent. Data can still be extracted over shared Wi-Fi zones and could prove harmful to your shopping spree

Finding Best Deals

1: Use sites that give you freebies or cashback

The average savings that can be made using a site that gives you freebies and cashback can be as high as 30%. Sites like Pennyful.in allow you to gain money spent on sites like Flipkart, Amazon and PayTM. Many other sites give you free gifts that you probably covered in your list, thus cutting down expenses.

2: Spend time on the site

Browse through the various pages of Flipkart, Amazon, Jabong, PayTM and the others. There are many offers that they put up, which prove beneficial to your shopping experience. Bulk purchases may also help you get great deals in the items that you buy.

3: Ship them directly

You don't have to order all the gifts to your doorstep and them dispatch them to other cities. Many e-commerce sites allow you to send gifts directly to the recipient and sometimes even gift-wrap them with a personal message. Use this to save on additional costs of shipping.

These tips should keep you safe and help you make the most of this festive season. Shopping online can be fun and a great experience provided you are aware of what you need and how you go about making your purchases.
