Starting next year, NCERT textbooks will include topics like Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Demonetisation.
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum is followed by CBSE affiliated schools such as the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JVs) among others.
According to a daily newspaper, Minister for State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha told the Rajya Sabha, “NCERT has decided to incorporate contents related to GST and demonetisation in the existing chapters of subjects, such as economics, business studies, accountancy, and political science, while bringing out the reprint editions of their textbooks for the academic year 2018-19.”
Further, it was deemed necessary that since these topics of interest are not a part of the curriculum at present, inclusion of these contents in the syllabi under NCERT is pivotal and school students should be taught about these recent financial measures taken by the government which affects us all.
The Delhi University (DU) commerce students will also be taught about GST as it will be included in the syllabi of all commerce courses. The inclusion of GST has been approved by the academic council and will be taught under the courses like BCom (Hons), BCom (Prog) and BA (Prog).
Note ban is something that everyone, be it school students or commerce students should be aware of and now with the inclusion of these contents in the curriculum, the students will be able to understand the concept behind ‘one nation, one tax.’
